Volunteer

Everyone's help is welcome. We All Belong.

There is ALWAYS a need for you to volunteer and participate at Orca K-8, no matter your interests, abilities, or schedule.

Introverts, extroverts, skeptics, optimists, risk averse, or enthusiast: there is a place for you to volunteer and participate at Orca K-8. Researcher, gardener, planner, organizer, photographer, writer, or artist: there is a place for you to grow and develop by volunteering at Orca K-8.

We need lots of volunteers, consistently, who are eager and ready to help. Volunteers keep Orca vibrant and strong while sending a message to the teachers, administration and students that our families are involved and are deeply committed to our school.

Fill out the Orca PTSA Volunteer Form to let us know how you want to volunteer with the PTSA.

Ways to Get Involved

1. Volunteer in the classroom or on school grounds — sign up to become a SPS approved volunteer!

Applications take two weeks to process, so complete your application now!

The SPS volunteer application process is now all online, and the background check is good for two years.

RETURNING VOLUNTEERS:  Please do not create a new volunteer application. Refer to the Current & Returning Volunteers page to renew or update your application.

NEW VOLUNTEERS:
Before volunteering with Seattle Public Schools, ALL Volunteers are required to:

*You will need a WA state-issued ID and there may be a fee depending on the type of volunteering you expect to do. Financial assistance is available if you are unable to afford this fee — please contact the school office for help.

More information about the application process is available at the SPS Volunteer website.

2. Use Your Time and/or Skills to Support the PTSA's Work

There are countless ways you can help our school. Join the PTSA board, hand out prizes at the Read-a-thon, procure auction items for the annual fundraiser, bake a pie for the Holiday Bazaar, coordinate orders for the annual Plant Sale...it takes a LOT of people-power to support all our fundraising efforts.

Let us know how you'd like to help and when you have time. Please complete the Orca PTSA Volunteer Form to help us understand who you are and how you'd like to get involved. If you are unable to fill out the form online, contact the Orca Office for assistance.

3. Join or renew your PTSA membership

Parents, teachers, staff, students and community members are ALL WELCOME!

We rely on strong member support to strengthen our school community and provide inclusive and enriching programs to our students.

Annual dues are $20. Member dues have gone up since last year. Out of the $20 dues, $3.50 goes to Seattle Council PTSA, $8 goes to WA State PTA, and $8.50 goes to Orca K-8 PTSA's membership fund. The membership fund is used to cover scholarship memberships, with any leftover funds incorporated into the general fund to support PTSA programs.

If you can't afford the dues, don't let that stop you from joining. We want you to become a member regardless of your ability to pay. Click here to apply for a scholarship membership.

Joining the Orca K-8 PTSA does NOT commit you to any volunteer hours or require attendance at meetings. All Orca community members are welcome at our general PTSA meetings, but only paid members are allowed to vote on PTSA board positions and PTSA budgets.
